Dreads, passions and my (itinerant) life

If you know me either personally or through facebook, you will know that I spend a lot of time roaming around the globe.  I have a gypsy spirit and I can’t seem to stay in one place for too long.  My insatiable desire to explore the world overrides pretty much everything else – you could say it’s my main priority.

When I was 24, I quit my job and went to India on my own with nothing but the clothes I was wearing, a small backpack, a little bit of money and no idea about anything to do with India.  I just went.  I wont bore you with my ‘spiritual awakening’ experiences – you would have heard them all before from people who have been there – but one thing I will say is a few months later upon my return, I made a deal with myself.  I promised myself that I would never again in my life do anything for work that I was not passionate about.  And I have honoured that promise for the last 17 years (and counting).

That brings me to dreads – and more travel.

So many people ask me how I get to travel and live my life the way I do.  The answer?  I make dreads.

Dreadlocks have been a long-time passion of mine and I’ve been making dreads on and off since I was a teenager (I’m now 41).  I’ve travelled to lots of places and seen many many different dreadlock methods, and I have tried and tested many as well. Now having been firmly settled with my own natural dreadlock method for the past several years, this work that I have created has allowed me to live the lifestyle that I yearned for.

I know my travelling lifestyle is not for everybody (which is great because if we were all the same life would be really boring and planes really overcrowded!!) but everyone has passions and dreams – yes I know YOU do.  If dreadlocks happen to be one of your passions as well and you would like to learn how to make them using a natural method while also learning about how to set up your own dreadlock business then jump on over to my courses section and get started with my online locticians course.  My online course is designed to give you everything you need to set up your own business making dreadlocks.

I have been so blessed in my life to have this skill that it is now time to pass it onto others who also want to use this beautiful craft to enhance their lives.

Maybe like me you yearn to travel, or maybe you want to set up a shop, or work from home, at markets, festivals – whatever your idea is – my course will give you everything you need to start up (and more).

Yes this blog is a little plug on my course, but I want to let people know that achieving your dreams IS possible and if you have had thoughts about starting your own dreadlock business, just jump in and do it!!  I can’t tell you enough how having this skill has made my life so completely amazing, and I quite sincerely want other people to have that experience as well.

Ok, that’s enough course promotion for today.  If you feel drawn to doing the course – or something else… (ANYTHING!!!!!)  Just go for it.

Explore you passions and live your dreams.

PS I’m in Bali as I write this.  Making dreads got me here :)

I am so totally happy to be doing your course Sam. I cannot adequately explain in words but will briefly try. I have worked for myself most of my life doing various things from jewellery making, leather, art, airbrush, tarot cards..you get the picture-but….for the last few years I have been very ill & through that, kind of gave up on life. I was told towards the end of last year to ‘embrace my walking stick’ – and get psychiatric help to deal with my ‘decline’ (or in other words , prepare for death). At the same time, I saw you advertising your course….with no money & absolutely crap health – I decided in a moment that I was no longer accepting being a health victim & that I really, really wanted to do dreads (as I have had them for a few yrs myself). I felt a passion stirring in my soul that I had not felt for so long….the thought of being creative again urged me forward & I started visualising getting the $$$ to do the course….then I found out I would be getting a cheque for, you guessed it, the cost of the course. So now, here I am, my health recovery is nothing short of amazing & I am so excited to be starting a new business venture….
Thank you for sharing your knowledge :)

Ajay, I got goosebumps reading that. I read it twice. Thank you for such a beautifully open message.
I am so excited that you are doing this course – actually even more excited now as clearly it was meant to be.
Thank you for participating and being part of my little online tribe.
I very much look forward to seeing what you will create – and how you put all your skills together.
